Master Juba

A Man Came to a Woman

Master Juba: The Wonder of the World

R U GOING TO C JUBA?!
JUBA, JUBA, THE INIMITABLE JUBA!!
JUBA, IMMORTALISED BY BOZ!!!

JUBA, THE BEST DANCER LIVING!!!!

JUBA, THE GREATEST WONDER IN THE WORLD!!!!!

Master Juba: The Wonder of the World is a potent mix of rhythm and words, reclaiming the streets with a frenzy of beats, a call and a song, improvised tap and the heart of the drum.   Master Juba is an urgent street performance that recounts the amazing tale of Juba, the Greatest Dancer Who ever Lived, the 8th Wonder of the World.

My life blood runs in your veins,

Seeps through your stories, makes up your games.

Your face on my face, your hand in mine

I'll walk this land till our lifelines combine.

Master Storyteller Stickman Higgins, his faithful sidekick Lucy Long - as portrayed by our Star Spangled Signed Song Diva, Caroline Parker -  and the Queen of Improvised Rhythm Tap, Miss Jessica Murray, as the mysterious Dancer, take the audience on a miraculous journey from the verdant plains of West Africa, through the bitter slave fields of North America, to the taverns and music halls of the industrial heartlands of Europe searching for the man who changed the world, the man who invented tap, the King of the Dance.

These performances will feature remarkable feats of terpsichorean skill, much clapping of hands, humorous ditties and shouts of joy and sorrow. During each show a small reward will be offered to anyone providing information leading to the discovery of the whereabouts of Master Juba's grave and in particular the restoration of the magic tambourine that is said to lie within.   This to be returned to its rightful and certified owner, the aforementioned Mr Stickman Higgins.

Press Quotes and Audience Feedback

"I have not heard this story before and as in previous work I've seen of Fittings, they are very good at story telling."

"It was refreshing to see a street show that was beyond just being funny or quirky and had something important to tell the audience."

"From the outset the audience joined in without much coaxing."

"It's an important story about how black people were marginalised and also how one man overcame this."

"The piece was well acted by The Master Storyteller Stickman Higgins and Lucy Long (Diva Caroline Parker) who held the story and audience as did Miss Jessica Murray as the mysterious Dancer."
