The Irish Giant (2002/3)
"How do you measure a man? By his bones, or by the essence of his heart and soul?"
This major piece of work resulting from the collaboration with New Breed was written and directed by Garry Robson and won the Manchester Evening News Best Fringe Production Theatre Award as well as being nominated for Best New Play. The show retells the tale of James Hunter, the great anatomist and his pursuit of Charles Byrne the 'Pop Idol’ of the Eighteenth Century Freak World.
The show toured nationally and was also presented as part of Manchester’s Mart Festival.
This show further developed our strong working relationship with The Royal Exchange Manchester.
The Irish Giant was reprised in 2003 with Birds of Paradise Theatre Company and completed a very successful Scottish tour.
